Yoga & Fitness Classes
Want to make your beach day about more than just bronzing? Start with an hour-long boot camp sesh Saturday mornings at 9 a.m. at W South Beach, boosting your metabolism for 12-16 hours after the class thanks to the combo of core, strength and cardio work. You can also hit the beach here for body work Thursday and Sunday mornings for a sweat-inducing session of circuit training.
South Beach welcomed its first SoulCycle spinning studio at the start of the year in the form of a 2,600-square-foot space tucked inside 1 Hotel South Beach. Take part in the signature 45-minute rides choreographed to DJ-crafted playlists that are said to burn anywhere from 500 to 700 calories a class.
If you feel more at peace in a sky-high setting, head up to the 20th floor of the JW Marriott Marquis Miami Downtown for yoga at Rina. Founded by Reiki practitioner and yoga instructor Rina Jakubowicz—who’s appeared on the cover of Yoga Journal a few times—Rina offers classes for all levels, from challenging Vinyasa flow to the more balance- and posture-driven Hatha yoga.
Spa and wellness brand exhale also has three spots spread around Miami, offering its signature yoga and core fusion courses at the EPIC downtown, at the Loews on Miami Beach and in Bal Harbour at The Ritz-Carlton. Those looking for a full-body transformation (inside and out) will love the dynamic, award-winning mind body classes known for shredding fat through calorie-burning moves that are effective but also fun. Opt for one of the many Core Fusion courses that work your core strength during a full-body class that takes on cardio, yoga and boot camp twists.
Acqualina Spa by ESPA in Sunny Isles has a partnership with local fitness brand YOGiiZA, offering 10 tailored yoga programs that range from beachfront flow to energy cleanse, breathing and meditation. At The Ritz-Carlton, Key Biscayne, fitness is all about being one with nature, whether that’s through Poolates (pool-based Pilates) or with an Atlantic Walk from the hotel along the beach to the Cape Florida Lighthouse, the oldest building in the county.
When Nobu Hotel opens at Eden Roc this fall, expect a completely revamped set of classes and spa concept with Nobu-inspired treatments. In the mean time, you can still take part in a number of 50-minute fitness classes ($30 per class) that range from private boxing and extreme beach boot camp to yoga, spinning and water aerobics.
Since they’re known for their outdoor fitness programs, it’s no surprise that V Art of Wellness has a headquarters in Miami Beach and partners with properties like Faena and The St. Regis Bal Harbour. The brand’s fitness trainers Tracie and Christopher Vlaun have teamed up with the hotels to develop wellness programs, in addition to their signature beach yoga and boot camp classes.
